Aguas Verdes Natural Pools

Driving on the FV-207 from the north direction Tefia and then Betancuria (on FV-30), you’ll soon reach LLanos de la Concepcion with the small exit right to Aguas Verdes. After a 10-15 min drive, you’ll reach Playa del Valle, more famous for the beautiful natural pools hiding behind than for the beach itself.

The natural pool area is a bit hidden; first, you should descend to the beach and then explore more to the right (direction north). If the tide is right, you’ll soon see an exciting lava field with countless small pools.

Aguas Verdes is a unique and interesting place that I only recommend visiting in low tide and calm seas. The natural pool area is beautiful in mild weather, but possibly quite dangerous in any other. At high tide, the whole area is underwater, so you won’t even see much, besides, in strong waves, you won’t even be able to reach it from the beach. In low tide and windy conditions, which generate waves, the feeling of safety can still be deceiving. Although it’s possible to walk along the pools closer to the shore (as opposed to closer to the open sea), the ocean hits strongly, and the waves, with their immense force, can reach you there, too.

I personally know someone who was pulled over the edge by the waves, and they were really lucky some people were there to pull them out of the open ocean, already unconscious after some hard hits into the rough coast. Please, don’t underestimate the elements and only visit the area on a calm day and in low tide, when it turns into a lovely place to walk, jump into the natural pools, or even enjoy a beach day there. If you like snorkeling, you can dive into the pools, discover more about the volcanic underwater landscape, and meet some beautiful red crabs that found their home in these beautiful “charcos”.

After leaving the car at the parking, you’ll have to go down to the beach, passing several houses; please respect their privacy and don’t approach the coast through their private gardens.

From Aguas Verdes village to the parking, there’s a short part of an unpaved dirt road.

ABOUT ME
Jakica Jesih

My name is Jakica Jesih, and I come from Slovenia. After years of traveling, mainly as a solo traveler, I fell in love with Fuerteventura and made it my new home. The more I learned about this extraordinary island and its hidden, often very wild places, the more inspired I became by the beautiful connection between its vast emptiness and the powerful elements that make it so unique. I’m very excited to share this raw natural beauty and all I’ve learned about this remarkable place. On this page, you’ll find the information and tips you might find inspiring and helpful, as well as some of my services – guided tours and consulting if you have specific questions about Fuerteventura.

For more info and valuable tips, please check the website or/and get in touch at jakica@siol.net or DM me on Instagram @jakionfuerte. I’ll be happy to share.

Welcome, and please, be a conscious traveler. Although it might look rough and wild, this island is also very fragile, exposed to elements and forces of nature that create so much beauty for us to enjoy but also take their toll. Let’s not add to that. Let’s just make memories, take photos, leave footprints – and nothing else.
